Colour for Health
National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute – a research Institute under Ministry of Science and Technology. The scientists after persistent efforts have developed unique wheat by following conventional breeding biofortification and have developed – Black and Purple coloured wheat.
The wheat gets its black and purple colour from a pigment ‘anthocyanins’ which are type of antioxidants – generally found in black berries, strawberries, grapes, eggplant, plums, etc.
These antioxidants have anti-inflammatory properties and thus are helpful for boosting immunity and helps preventing from cardiac issues, obesity, diabetics.
